Learning Through Play
Meal Makers is a physical educational toolkit designed to help preschool children understand balanced nutrition through play. The project translates nutritional guidelines into an interactive experience where children assemble healthy meal plates using tactile food pieces, encouraging exploration, decision-making, and hands-on learning rather than memorisation.
Problem
Many children between the ages of four and six develop picky eating habits during their early years. Parents and educators often struggle to introduce balanced nutrition in ways that are engaging and age-appropriate. Existing educational materials tend to rely on passive learning, making it difficult for young children to connect nutritional concepts with everyday meals.
Solution
Meal Makers transforms nutritional education into an interactive game where children physically build breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates using modular food pieces. Guided by nutritional principles and designed around play-based learning, the toolkit encourages children to recognise healthy food groups while developing motor skills, curiosity, and independent decision-making.
